By encouraging closer cooperation, progress can be made more quickly, which will allow Amsterdam UMC Imaging Center to maintain its global position as a top institute for medical imaging. In view of today’s complex challenges in healthcare (e.g. the rising costs), and the demand for improved quality and affordability of care, public-private-patient partnerships are the only way to address these issues. By working together with industry, knowledge institutes, healthcare providers and patient advocacy groups, clinical applications and industrial innovation can be spurred. In this light, our core units are shop-in-shop entities.
The Imaging Center is directly connected to the Amsterdam UMC’s hospital VUmc location. This will enable easy access for Radiology & Nuclear Medicine patients to all types of different scans, like CT scans, PET scans, MRI scans and mammograms. The Imaging Center will also host the Tracer Center Amsterdam as well as the wellknown LaserLab Amsterdam of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
Underground is where the highly-advanced particle accelerators, or cyclotrons, are located. BV Cyclotron VU is a fully licensed commercial partner for medical isotope and tracer production, and for distribution of an array of PET tracers within The Netherlands and worldwide. With four cyclotrons it is one of the largest cyclotron sites in Europe that will safeguard the supply of PET tracers in an environmentally “green” way for Dutch hospitals and broader.
